If i buy a new blackberry curve 8530 on ebay, can i just go to virgin mobile and connect it?

OR do i have to buy it from the store??? i saw one on ebay. Brand new, never opened, but i've never had a phone. Can i just buy it and then go and connect it orr what?? thanks :)
